East Asia

This week has been so amazing, God showed up in so many ways possible. He is faithful and we can do all things through Him, even when it seems impossible. I had the privilege to go back to China this summer for about 2 weeks to teach English at a local high school, there were about 50 Chinese students who have never had the opportunity to even choose what they want to believe or follow. This week, they experienced American culture and most importantly Christian values and why we believe in God. We stayed in dorms 2 Americans to 6 Chinese students; we shared lives together. I got to know these girls quickly; they opened up to me because I could relate to them. About five years ago I was one of them, but I had the privilege to move to America, God chooses me out me the other 1.3 million people in China to meet Him and now I go back and serve Him. I am so thankful to know that I am worthy of His unconditional love, He planned out every bite of my life even before I was born, the hurts in my life; the experience I went through was all building me to be a strong follower in Him.

During this time, I could just feel God’s Holy Spirit moving in everyone’s lives. We taught the students American culture, language, and holidays, the one that stood out to the Chinese students was Christmas. One night after the Christmas lesson, I pulled out my bible and just started reading the Book of John to one of the girl in my dorm, then all of the sudden, everyone plugged their ears in to listen to why we need to believe in Jesus and how we do it, I asked the girl I was reading to if she believed in Jesus Christ and that we all need Him, and she said confidently “Yes!” I was so excited the Holy Spirit was flowing in the room, then I boldly asked the other girls, and they said yes! This was very encouraging, because just before this happened, I was very discouraged when we were teaching the other Chinese students about God and they responded to me like I was crazy, they argued with me why they doubted, I just felt God wasn’t there. I realized the salvation of others is not whether or not I did well, but it takes God’s timing and His plans for that certain person to believe in him, we are here to plant seeds; He is the one who grows it and reaps that one seed. It might take one day, or it might take a year. You just need to have faith to believe. Meanwhile, one of the girl from my dorm didn’t believe, I wasn’t going to let that go, so I asked her why, and she told me the stories in the Bible about Jesus were impossible. Then I asked her if I could share something that God has done for my life- He brought me out of darkness to light, He made the impossible possible, He saved me from evil, He took over my life when I was desperate. I shared my story, and then I asked her again if she believed, that moment, she said “yes I believe!” so we prayed and the whole room accepted Christ as their savior!

The Holy Spirit was working in each one of our hearts, even the students. During one of the meals, I saw a girl with a disappointed look on her face; I knew I had to share with her the unconditional love God gives. I asked her if she wanted to talk after eating, she said yes. On the walk, she told me all about the pressure she gets from her parents, teachers, and friends about making good grades and doing well in school, if you are not good enough, no one will really love you. That moment, I knew God sent me here for a reason; I told her God doesn’t love you for how smart you are but He loves you because His love is unconditional. She just started crying but it was a joyful one, because they don’t hear words like that in China. God works in miracle ways, after the prayer her mom called; they usually don’t have a good relationship so that was awesome how God answers prayers. She prayed to receive Jesus into her heart!

God opened so many doors through this trip. I encourage you to be a part of God’s kingdom by serving Him, in China or at your school. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” Matthew 28:19
